Protection of Pine Island Pond lands
will make Bay more resilient to
climate change
The Bay’s capacity to adapt to climate change recently received a boost. This month, the Mattapoisett Land Trust (MLT) purchased 120 acres of woods and wetlands around Pine Island Pond, a partially enclosed bay off Mattapoisett Harbor surrounded by expanses of salt marsh. This project, a partnership led by the MLT and supported by the Buzzards Bay Coalition and the Town of Mattapoisett, was the first land conservation project to receive funding through the state’s Municipal Vulnerability Preparedness (MVP) Program, which supports towns’ efforts to become more resilient to climate change.

Our gift to you: A new way to discover your Buzzards Bay
Time and time again, we’ve seen that the people with the strongest commitment to protecting Buzzards Bay are those who use it, know it, and love it. That's why we created Discover Buzzards Bay, an online tool that helps local residents find unique and exciting ways to explore the outdoors, get some exercise, and connect with nature.

This year, we reached an exciting milestone when we passed 250 Places To Go on Discover Buzzards Bay. The website now features somewhere to explore in every town around the Bay, from Little Compton to Aquinnah — and with your help, it can continue to grow. By giving to the Annual Fund, you ensure that we can keep adding to Discover and introducing people to their new favorite place on the Bay, creating the stewards of tomorrow.
